Library Online Catalogs – The Dinosaurs of the new era?

The users who complain that your online catalog is hard to search aren't stupid; they are simply pointing out the obvious. Relevance ranking is just one of many basic search-engine functionalities missing from online catalogs

In a three-part series of articles, Karen G. Schneider, who is the Director of Librarians' Index to the Internet, explains what is wrong with library search tools ( OPAC's). Her conclusion is that todays OPAC's represent what librarians want, and it's up to librarians to change that.
