New Search Engine Empowers Librarians’ Internet Index (LII)

Siderean, a company with faceted search technology is behind the new search engine on Librarians' Internet Index.

The faceted technology allows for easy navigation through "facets" ( topic filters) located on the left side of LII. The LII collection is divided into thousands of topic filters. By combining "facets" ( filters) you can narrow your search.

For example, if you want to find library jobs websites you can start with the facet "Librarianship" with total of 704 websites. After that I picked another facet " Job & Work" and was able to get 12 sites with library employment listings.

The secret of Siderean is the use of dynamic filters ( metadata driven) that will only subdivide the remaining items for your search. In other words, every offered facet (topic) for your search leads to at least one website.

Advanced search options include Boolean search operators (AND, OR, NOT), phrase search, and wildcards. Search results are sorted by relevancy, and time of inclusion ( oldest ; newest) and ascending or descending order.

RSS feed subscription for searches and the weekly edition of LII "New This Week" are also available.
