A9 Redesigned With Search Groups

Customizable search groups are the new credo of Amazon’s A9 search engine. Before searching the user have to select a group. Each of the main search groups:quick start, reference, entertainment , book search, images includes different sources (Answers.com, Wikipedia, IMDB, Amazon). Results from searches in each source in a group are presented in separate window.

You may also add and delete search groups and customize them with pre-selected 400 sources. Google is not among those sources, because Microsoft’s new Life Search Engine is chosen to power A9.

A quick preview of the other 400 sources did not impress me much, although I have to admit that the search layout with groups is an elegant one.

Many librarian blogs expressed regret over A9’s decision to drop support for the toolbar, yellow pages, search history, diary and bookmarks and the famous image blockview.

Other search engines with personalized search features are Rollyo, where you can pick the 25 sites, you want to be searched and Opsdo, which is similar to A9.
