Resources for College Libraries (RCL), an expert selected core titles for reference and general collections in academic libraries is now available online.
RCL is the web successor of the classic reference tool "Books for College Libraries, 3rd Edition" (BCL3), which was last published in 1988. The new database is a joint effort between Choice Magazine (published by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) and R.R. Bowker, publisher of Books in Print.
350 experts created the recommended core list of 62,000 titles ( books and electronic resources) in 58 subject areas. Here are the major features of the new database:
* create, edit, save and e-mail lists
*easy searching by author, subject, title, format, audience and LC Classification Number
*frequent updates to keep your collection current.
*over 19,000 matching Choice reviews of books and reference sources
*customizable RCL alerts for new titles
A new print edition of RCL is coming in November. Some of the content from the database will also be accessible through the forthcoming Bowker's new collection analysis tool, Bowker's Book Analysis System (BBAS).
