Anonymous donor bought half of the Arts Island for the American Library Association on Second Life. As you know the popular online community draws more than 1 million visitors and a lot of libraries have also decided to purchase virtual land in the game.

"Virtually anything is possible in this online world, so we look forward to investigating how we can support our members and our profession as a whole in this unique online setting", explains Jenny Levine, ALA Internet Development Specialist and Strategy Guide and author of the popular blog The Shifted Librarian.

You can learn more about Second Life and libraries from Stephen Abram's post "Rev Up Your Avatars – Future Libraries'Third Presence in Second Life" at his famous blog Stephen's Lighthouse.
