OCLC Starts WorldCat Registry

In late February OCLC started WorldCat Registry, a comprehensive directory for libraries. The goal of the new service is to create a single database for information about institution type, location, URLs for electronic services, circulation statistics, vendors used, main and branch relationships, budget and service stats, administrative contacts.

"A centralized database such as the WorldCat Registry for this type of information would facilitate efficient sharing of critical information among many interested parties", explains Celeste Feather, Electronic Resources Librarian at The Ohio State University Libraries.

The service is free and full access to library accounts and information will be given only to authorized users. Detailed info is available from the OCLC News blog
