As predicted by many bloggers and experts in the media industry You Tube received its first court papers yesterday for copyright infringement. The complaint was filed by Viacom Inc. against Google Inc and its Internet video sharing megasite YouTube for more than $1 billion dollars. According to Reuters "Viacom contends that almost 160,000 unauthorized clips of its programming have been uploaded onto YouTube's site and viewed more than 1.5 billion times."
Philipp Lenssen from Google Blogoscoped has a nice post explaining the law pertaining to reproduction of copyrighted material.
It will be interesting to see the outcome because of the boomerang effect that the trial might have on the search engine, Internet and advertising industries.
