Windows Live Disables Advanced Search Features

Live Search's WebLog announced yesterday that Windows Live search engine has disabled all the "link:" , "linkdomain:" and "inurl: " advanced searches.

"We have been seeing broad use of these features by legitimate users but unfortunately also what appears to be mass automated usage for data mining. So for now, we have made the tough call to block all queries with these operators”, explains Eytan Seidman Lead Program Manager at Live Search.

Windows Live is currently working on alternative ways to incorporate those advanced search features for customers who use those for real queries.

I don’t know how many automated data mining searches are performed on Microsoft’s search engine, but obviously they are way too many. Lets see what Microsoft is going to come up with.
