Library Link Of The Day pointed to a new library oriented digitization project. Emory University, University of Maine, the Toronto Public Library and the Cincinnati Public Library announce that they will join forces with Kirtas Technologies (digitizing) and BookSurge( print on demand books) to digitize their collections.
In contrast to Goggle Book project this time libraries plan to digitize only out-of-copyright books and will retain control over the sale of the final product.
Google welcomed the project but experts in the library community commented that it will be easier to see the "impact and effectiveness of this approach" only after the content is successfully delivered online to the patrons of the library.
I have no doubt that libraries will be able to deliver the content online one way, or another the question is how to attract more users.
