Answers.com Buys Dictionary.com

Answers.com paid 100 million dollars for Dictionary.com, Thesaurus.com and Reference.com. All three companies are part of a Lexico Publishing Group.

If you ever searched for a word in Google before 2005, you actually searched Dictionary.com After 2005 Google started using Answers.com as an online encyclopedia and dictionary.

Answers.com is actually the old Gurunet, an online encyclopedia with 4 million entries today, drawn from 180 reference books, free Wikipedia articles and in-house written materials.

According to Answer.com’s the three newly acquired companies Dictionary.com, Thesaurus.com and Reference.com receives three times more page views than Answers.com and will stay as stand-alone services
