One in four American adults haven’t open a book during the past year, revealed the Associated Press-Ipsos poll. The survey, which tracks reading habits of Americans also showed that older people and women are the most avid readers, with 41 % of Americans reading between 1 – 5 books and 31% reading from 5 to 15 books per calendar year.
One third of Americans read more than 15 books per year, with religious books and fiction being the most popular reading choices.
"The Bible and religious works were read by two-thirds in the survey, more than all other categories. Popular fiction, histories, biographies and mysteries were all cited by about half, while one in five read romance novels. Every other genre — including politics, poetry and classical literature — were named by fewer than five percent of readers.", summarizes the poll an article in CNN.
