Overdrive With New eBooks Standing Order Plan

Last month Overdrive, the main vendors for digital media like eBooks, audio books, online music and video for public libraries started "OverDrive Download Standing Order Plan (DSOP)". The new service offers popular titles from publishers to be added to library digital collections even before the "on sale" date.

The new Download Standing Order Plan (DSOP) allows libraries to add digital content automatically to their collections each month, without selecting titles individually.

"Libraries can use this new feature to create pre-release buzz for eagerly anticipated new titles. Libraries that register for OverDrive Download Standing Order Plan will see selected titles automatically appear on their websites when they are available – even before their release dates. Patrons can place holds during the pre-release period, then check out and download the titles on the release date."

Digital Media ( books, music and video) is slowly building its fan base and with the option to read online books before their “release” date it is not difficult to predict the popularity of this new service.
