Paula J. Hane from Information Today’s NewsBreaks reports that one of the major database vendors Gale decided to create a website called AcquireContent.com, so they can distribute their databases to just anybody.
The new service, AcquireContent.com, offers more than 10,000 sources of content, from Gale and its licensed publishing partners, covering more than 500 different topic areas.
Gale came up with a simple three step process – search, mark titles that you need and contact Gale representatives to see how much it costs.
For a while Gale tried different ways to reach customers by creating AccessMyLibrary( full access to Gale databases); Goliath ( "global company and industry intelligence to business executives"); ECNext ( business portal, including Goliath);AllBusiness.com ( trade journals from Gale). In addition library experts have identified more than 100 organizations ( Dow Jones, HighBeam..) that have strategic business distribution partnerships with Gale.
For librarians this is good news, since library databases are not anymore the single point of entry for all customers who want to do research using Gale.
